Job Summary/Key Function
This is a full-time on-site role for a Senior Industrial Designer located in Elk Grove Village, IL.
This position complements the Director of Industrial Design and Regional VP by designing and drafting prototypes of retail display, fixtures, and point of sale.
Working as part of our cross functional team you will have the ability to clearly communicate your ideas, as Senior Industrial designer, you will independently use your experience, market knowledge & design abilities, combined with marketing insights data from clients and internal colleagues to conceptualize adequate concepts for each client request in terms of form, function and cost.
You are responsible for meeting deadlines, working with your colleagues to create designs that fit the brief and are fit for purpose.
You will be assisting team members in the prototyping process as well as client presentations to as appropriate.
Essential Job Duties
· Examines materials and production costs to determine overseas and domestic manufacturing requirements.
· Problem-solves by identifying complex design problems, anticipates production issues, develops alternatives, evaluates options and implements solutions.
· Present design work to colleagues and/or clients and/or retailers as needed (immediate availability to travel is required)
· Work with marketing insights staff to apply market analysis to create on-strategy displays
· Liaison with technical designers to ensure smooth and accurate transition from concept to build-able item.
- Apply your expertise to develop display and fixtures designs, balancing form, function, technical constraints and manufacturability with a special attention to overseas manufacturing.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers and marketing researchers.
- Present ideas through sketches, 3D models, renderings, and physical mock-ups to clients and team members.
- Create prototypes to explore, test, and validate design concepts.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration and demonstrate leadership over the course of short-term projects.
- Deliver exceptional visual storytelling using an array of 2D and 3D tools and techniques, creating compelling presentations for clients.
- Mentor junior designers by sharing knowledge and demonstrating advanced craft techniques.
· Meet agreed upon deadlines

· Ensure project documentation adheres to company defined processes

Other Job Duties
· Consults with clients to determine requirements for the designs.
· Research who will use a particular product and the various ways it might be used.
· Uses computer software to develop virtual models of different designs.
· Creates physical muck-ups or models of the designs.
· Evaluates product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is practical.
· Presents designs and demonstrates prototypes to clients for approval.
· Develops positive, cooperative working relationships with clients and colleagues in related disciplines using interpersonal skills.
· Works with a variety of materials such as metal, plastics, wood, and print.
· Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills/Qualifications
· 6+ years of experience in Industrial Design working in POP/fixtures design industry.
· Working knowledge and experience in designing for manufacturing displays in
o plastic sheet fabrication, Vacuum forming, Injection moulding, extrusions
o Metal; sheet metal, wire forming, steel tube and finishing
o Wood and wood by-products, millwork
· Preferred knowledge of Cinema 4D,
· Adobe CC, and SolidWorks these are a plus but not indispensable
· Analytical skills, using logic and reasoning to study consumers and recognize their needs is required.
· Self-motivated - does not need constant supervision to stay productive.
· Strong sketching ability
· Positive approach to problem solving / lateral thinking.
· Design development and project process awareness
· Process discipline – good attention to detail, ensures compliance and correct completion of processes
· Good interpersonal skills—works well in a team environment
· Ability to work flexible hours, available to travel. (On site M-F 9am to 5pm) open to attend after office hours with clients and overseas manufacturing team.
· Creativity and artistic ability required to sketch innovative design ideas and create prototypes.
· Must have good communication and interpersonal skills to develop cooperative working relationships with clients and colleagues.
· Able to understand how the types of products they design are engineered, with experience in metal, plastics, wood, and print materials.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers. The following physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift/push/pull office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Supervisory Duties
Partially responsible for the education and training of the whole industrial design team.
