Job Description – Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Seville Classics is seeking a full-time Industrial Designer to work at Corporate Headquarters in Torrance, CA. The ideal candidate possesses a lot of creativity and is seeking new creative challenges, wanting to develop new lines/collections, brands, and/or products for the home, garage or office. You will take products from concept through production.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Design and develop new consumer products keeping in mind mass manufacturing requirements, price points, and sustainability.
- Manage all aspects of the product development process on assigned projects from initial concept through manufacturing.
- Work on different categories of housewares, storage and organization products, and furniture consisting mainly of steel, wood, MDF, glass, plastic, textiles, and natural materials.
- Partner with Sales, Product Design and Purchasing teams to develop and execute unique and innovative products for mass production.
- Conduct trend and market research and propose design and product opportunities.
- Create detailed 2D CAD drawings for patent filing.
- Create visual presentations with photorealistic renderings for internal review and client consideration.
- Perform ongoing evaluation of the company’s core product categories to keep product designs fresh and in-line with relevant consumer product trends and customer requirements and contribute findings to our product roadmap.
- Develop clear specifications for manufacturing and work closely with factories to ensure deadlines, price points, and quality controls are met with.
- Evaluate and approve prototypes for quality, form, fit and function. Modify and iterate prototypes as needed to ensure that production pieces meet design requirements and price points.
- Attend trade shows for competitive market research and visit manufacturing facilities with limited travel.
- Complete special projects and any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Industrial or Product Design preferred.
- A minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience working in the capacity of a Junior Designer on consumer product design.
- Knowledge and passion for consumer goods and trends. Previous experience and/or knowledge of Home and/or Garage Storage and Organization is a plus.
- Must be highly proficient with 3D modeling software (such as SolidWorks or Rhino).
- Must be highly proficient with rendering software such as KeyShot to create photorealistic imagery.
- Must be highly proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator).
- Experience with all phases of the design process, including trend and market research, ideation and concept development, and manufacturing execution in collaboration with factories.
- Must possess knowledge of mass manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations regarding safety standards.
- Ability to work in different product categories, and to work and deliver with shorter timelines when needed.
- Possess a portfolio of work that demonstrates the ability to evaluate trends, the marketplace and competition, and develop items that can be manufactured and sold.
- Ability to work effectively both in an independent and team environment.
- Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated to be able to meet deadlines with high quality results, on time with minimal supervision.
- Ability to multi-task, excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
