What You'll Do:
Traeger is seeking an Industrial Designer to join our APRD team based in Salt Lake City, UT. In this role you will focus on user experience throughout the user journey and across touchpoints, working alongside Engineering, Category Management, Brand and Marketing to deliver delightful world class experiences. Employing user-centered design approaches, you will work with other members of the Product to develop and deliver product, print and digital assets focused on premium designs and user experiences.
The Design practice at Traeger is very hands-on; designers report to the VP of APRD and will work closely with engineers, and Design Research, to develop concepts, create prototypes, and test concepts all with the goal of helping improve the way people cook outdoors. You will be a member of the Traeger APRD team that creates new product concepts, maximizes return on existing designs, and commercializes new to world products. This role will be responsible for creating a well-developed sense of form, proportion, color, and materials to appropriately drive Traeger to be industry leading in the fit, feel, and finish of our innovative products. How You'll Help Us Win:
- Assist in leading product development projects driven by user insights utilizing core user-centered design approaches and usability standards through digital visualization, CAD, materials and manufacturing knowledge, with an impressive design sensibility.
- Lead/drive the design and experience of internally developed product projects as well as manage design work with outside development partners and contract manufacturers.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing consumer insights to help develop the product innovation roadmap that delivers a best-in-class user experience.
- Manage outside agencies to deliver solutions on time and at cost that are aligned to business expectations.
- Assist in development of and ensure accuracy of printed first use material, including assembly guides and user manuals, as part of a holistic user experience.
- Execute the team’s vision through incredible visualization skills describing user processes and engaging solutions.
- Evaluate project needs, understand and outline activities, and execute those activities that help drive the project teams.
- Project ownership of all aspects of design for projects you are responsible for, with shared authorship between other members of the ID, Engineering, and Product Management teams.
- Identifying, establishing, and articulating points of view, use case scenarios, and user workflows.
- Assembling design material into compelling presentations that walk the team through your thought process, narrative and point of view.
- Ongoing benchmarking of competitive products and industry trends.
- Keep abreast of current design trends holistically and within analogous industries and contribute to the creation of trend reports.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial design
- 5-7 years of experience, either consulting or corporate environments, in the consumer product industry is a plus
- Must have experience in physical consumer product design
- Exceptional core skills of information organization and visualization
- Ability to verbally present concepts to cross-disciplinary teams and organizational leadership
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite; hand and digital sketching; CAD creation of designs in SolidWorks
- Ability to demonstrate detailed understandings of mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams in brainstorming activities and capturing concepts with whiteboard sketches
- Proficiency in 3D data creation that accurately communicated design and experience intent
- Disciplined and data driven problem solving
- Experience with product development using a stage gate process
- PC or MAC literate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Interaction with overseas resources, ability to travel domestically and overseas a must
