Intern Position Summary:
EVgo is looking for a Sustainable Design Intern to support the design engineering team developing our next generation EV charging equipment. We are seeking an intern who is passionate about sustainable design and materials selection. The ideal candidate will have strong sketching and presentation skills and will seek unique sources of inspiration to generate and share ideas for us to continue to push the envelope in this space. This role will be on-site at our new headquarters in El Segundo, CA where the intern will help us establish EVgo’s design studio and materials library.
This internship will be 10-weeks, 40-hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Support the EVgo design team as we envision the physical identity of our next generation EV charging equipment
- Help establish definition of the color, material, and finish (CMF) of the EV charger with particular focus on sustainability and renewability
- Take initiative to explore unique sources of inspiration
- Work with suppliers to source material samples for a material library in our new design studio at our new headquarters in El Segundo, CA
- Assess material selection in terms of sustainability, manufacturability, and design aesthetics
Required Skills and Experience:
- Pursuing BS, BA, or MA in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field
- Portfolio with demonstrated strong sketching and/or rendering skills to communicate design ideas
- Passion for protecting the climate through sustainable design
Desired Qualifications:
- Completed at least 3 semesters of relevant coursework
- Understanding of manufacturing methods and feasibility
- Knowledge of color theory and color selection
- Experience considering functional constraints when selecting materials for a product or industrial application
The hourly rate for this position is $22.00 - $33.00 USD. The hourly rate may vary depending on job-related factors, including education, knowledge, skills, and experience.
