Fieldpiece is hiring a talented and experienced Senior Industrial Designer to lead our design efforts and shape the aesthetic and functional aspects of our innovative product lineup. You’ll play a key role in creating exceptional designs that resonate with our customers, align with our brand identity, and elevate the user experience.

The ideal candidate has over seven years of experience in industrial design and a proven ability to create precise, high-quality 3D designs with complex surfaces for injection-molded products. You’re creative, innovative and focused on the user experience. You’ve worked with mechanical and electrical products and understand how to accommodate their functions in the design. Finally, you have excellent communication skills to work across the organization and with external designers and suppliers.

What You’ll Do

Develop and communicate a clear design strategy and vision that aligns with the overall product and brand objectives of Fieldpiece Instruments.
Lead the design and development of new products from concept through production, ensuring they meet functional, aesthetic, and ergonomic requirements.
Foster a culture of innovation, continually exploring new materials, technologies, and design trends to drive product excellence and differentiation.
Advocate for the user throughout the design process, conducting user research and translating insights into design solutions that enhance usability and user satisfaction.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, marketing, and product management, to ensure seamless integration of design elements into the product development process.
Participate in design reviews and work collaboratively to address feedback and refine design concepts. Showcase reasoning behind design decisions.
Create high-quality prototypes and mock-ups to visualize and validate design concepts, iterating, and refining designs based on feedback and testing results.
Develop and maintain design standards and guidelines, ensuring consistency and coherence across all Fieldpiece Instruments products.
Work closely with external vendors and suppliers, providing design direction and ensuring design intent is preserved throughout the manufacturing process.
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful delivery of designs within project timelines and budget constraints.

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree in industrial design, product design, engineering or a related field.
7+ years of relevant experience in industrial design, with a strong portfolio showcasing a variety of products designed from concept to production.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks, Figma, and KeyShot.
Experience delivering flawless 3D models of complex surfaces to be used in injection molding.
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and production technologies relevant to the consumer electronics or industrial equipment industry.
Exceptional ability to develop innovative solutions via creativity and perspective fluidity.
Excellent ability to illustrate ideas appropriately, from concept sketches to customer-facing images in marketing material.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts effectively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Experience working in an open-minded, collaborative environment and providing mentorship to junior designers.
Ability to travel 2-3 weeks/year nationally and internationally to meet suppliers, conduct customer research, and participate in trade shows/conferences.

The California base annual salary range for this role is currently $110,000-125,000 + bonus. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
