As the Staff Industrial Designer, will collaborate with a talented team of designers, researchers, engineers, and marketers to deliver innovative, human-centered solutions for the healthcare industry. You will help drive the vision for the future of Stryker products, applying user-centered design principles to identify insights and translate them into actionable design opportunities. This role emphasizes defining the user experience and product attributes, while advocating for the end user throughout the product development process.

You must live within commuting distance of our Portage, MI office. This is a hybrid role, on-site Monday through Wednesday, with remote flexibility Thursday and Friday.
What You Will Do
- Lead concept exploration to create impactful product and service solutions aligned with key market and business priorities.
- Guide and coach junior designers on product architecture, interaction elements, and aesthetic direction.
- Plan and facilitate user research activities to drive collaboration and uncover actionable insights.
- Lead cross-functional brainstorming and co-creation activities to inform product concept development.
- Create mock-ups, visual storytelling assets, and physical prototypes for testing and user feedback.
- Translate user needs into design inputs and independently produce system-level design solutions.
- Define aesthetic strategy using advanced tools and methods, aligning design with brand and marketing goals.
- Execute customer-facing activities such as voice of customer research and customer-centric design sessions.
- Identify and lead process improvements related to design practices, systems, and product development.
What You Need
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or a related discipline; Master’s preferred
- 4+ years of relevant industrial design experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in design tools such as Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and engineering CAD software
- Strong sketching, visualization, and prototyping skills
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, and design for production
- Experience designing within a regulated product development environment
- Familiarity with design and engineering principles, including human factors integration
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in medical device, healthcare, or other regulated industries
