The role:
Menē is looking for a talented, multi-disciplinary 3D modeler, with unique expertise in modeling 3D organic and complex jewelry shapes, to join its team at its office in New Jersey.
Reporting to our Head of Operations and working closely with our Chief Creative Officer (CCO) and the rest of the team (Creative, Operations, Manufacturing, Product), you will be responsible for turning jewelry concepts into reality using the latest technologies in 3D modeling and printing. We are looking for a unique individual who understands and can apply the mechanics and exacting standards of jewelry making into their modeling skills and output and, most importantly, have the artistic talent necessary to create, often from rough hand sketches alone, complex, organic and sculptural shapes and textures that convey our CCO’s ideas (e.g., https://Menē.com/rings/gold/crocodile-ring-gold).
While we are looking for someone who is an exceptional, artistic 3D modeler first and foremost, a technical background in industrial, product or jewelry design is also necessary to ensure designs can ultimately be produced and manufactured. A deep understanding of modern 3D modeling and printing software and practices is a must-have, alongside an ability to understand and work within the confines of the operations and manufacturing techniques of pure gold and platinum jewelry.
The ideal candidate will also have an entrepreneurial bent and understand what it means to work within a start-up, e-commerce, retail manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities:
- Model and render all new and existing product concepts in 3D to the exacting standards of our Chief Creative Officer and our brand.
- Ensure all models are production-ready and meet all unique and necessary manufacturing standards required for producing pure gold and platinum jewelry.
- Manage 3D printing of all models and all aspects of running a 3D printing operation.
- Contribute ideas and design expertise to the conceptualization, development and production of the jewelry designs.
- Develop and manage a 3D model catalogue and work closely with the Product team to leverage 3D technologies to improve customer experience and help run the business.
- There is an opportunity to also get involved in the silicone mold-making and wax model-making processes.
- Work in concert with other team members to eliminate bottlenecks in the entire production process and use concepts of continuous improvement to improve process effectiveness and efficiency. Use data and analytics to improve your work and output.
- Find creative ways to work with a relatively tight operations budget. Ensure the best possible return on investment on every dollar spent.
- Work closely with all other business functions to ensure the business is running smoothly.
- Do what is necessary to grow and ensure the long-term success of Menē.
Requirements:
- To truly believe in the brand and what it stands for. It won’t work if you’re not thinking like an owner and don’t feel like this is your company, your product, and your customers.
- Expert user of Rhino, ZBrush, Gemvision Matrix, Blender, Keyshot and other well-known CAD and modelling programs used in design and jewelry-making.
- An understanding of parametric modeling, finite element analysis and other more technical CAD skills is a nice to have.
- Expert understanding of the 3D printing process, from file conversion to printer operations, maintenance, model cleaning and preparation for production, and so on.
- Very good understanding of Photoshop, Illustrator and other peripheral applications to 3D modeling.
- Extremely strong attention to detail and an innate desire to continually make order out of chaos.
- Ability to plan, manage and deliver projects independently, learn quickly in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure while still delivering the highest quality work.
- Continuous improvement mentality and skill set, with an understanding of priorities (e.g., urgent vs. important).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships and be a team player.
- The desire to grow and accomplish more than what the current parameters of this role call for.
- At least 3-5 years of deep experience in 3D modeling and design is necessary.
- A degree or certification in 3D modeling is necessary.
- A degree in industrial, product or jewelry design highly preferred.
