Avient Corporation seeks Associate Industrial Designer at its facility located at 430 Industrial Drive, Maryland Heights, MO 63043.
Job Description
Work together with multi-disciplinary product development team to advance innovative concepts and provide design direction for each of our customers. Coordinate research, concept generation, prototyping, and refinement. Support client projects with concept sketches, 3D modeling (Solid works), and CAD development (Solid works). Communicate with Avient Design and BU technical resources to validate feasibility of designs. Prototype designs with multiple processes including 3D printing. Obtain quotes for prototypes. Report design progress clearly and frequently to Senior Industrial Designer. Update all tasks in project management database with notes and hours. Participate in brainstorming events. Represent Avient Design at tradeshows, sales meetings, and other media events as necessary in their region. Travel Requirements: up to 25% domestic travel required. Telecommuting: Hybrid: 2 days in office required.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field, plus 3 years of experience as an Industrial Designer, Product Designer, Design Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) to develop preliminary sketch concepts, render images, and develop presentations for customers; (2) Developing digital CAD models of customer parts for prototyping, testing, and ultimately manufacturing using Solidworks (Solid and Surface Modeling); (3) Utilizing Keyshot to show real-world Colors, Materials, and Finishes on a 3D CAD model to provide a digital/visual representation of a real-world part; (4) Creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings of new product design using Solidworks to visualize the final product communicating design intent and guiding the manufacturing process; (5) Applying basic ergonomic principles to develop products that optimize user comfort and functionality to improve interaction and ease of use; (6) Implementing rapid prototyping techniques for iterative design solutions through physical prototype creation of design concepts for testing, evaluation, and presentation; (7) Performing research on materials to select appropriate materials for product design based on factors such as durability, cost, sustainability, aesthetic appeal, and manufacturability; and (8) Using project management software to establish and maintain relationships with cross functional teams.
