Job Description:
We’re looking for a product designer to work on our new collections and category expansion. The product range includes shelving systems, hooks, curtain rod brackets, tables, drawer pulls, trays, coasters. This role involves close collaboration with our product development manager, fabrication team, and founder.
The ideal candidate should be an expert in CAD design and 3D rendering, with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and 3D printing. We value a strong sense of scale, proportion, materiality, quality, and manufacturability. Must have experience in designing metal goods including jewelry, lighting, furniture, or hardware.
Since most of our sketches are brought to production, this position offers an excellent opportunity to see your designs come to life.
Responsibilities
- Create and develop concept sketches and transform them into high-quality 3D models using reference drawings
- Identify and integrate conceptual motifs, translating them into a diverse range of product designs through iterative 2D and 3D drafting
- Refine and modify existing product designs to meet evolving project requirements
- Produce precise and detailed production CAD specifications and drawings; put together tech packs for internal and external teams
- Create realistic in situ renders of products before production
- Use Adobe to create expanded views of products for installation instructions, and also produce and update product tear sheets, and catalog diagrams
- Collaborate with the design and development teams to review prototypes and 3D print samples, incorporating feedback and making necessary CAD adjustments
- Apply parametric modeling techniques to create product systems, such as shelving and sink bases
- Maintain and apply consistent design concepts across various products to ensure cohesive aesthetics
- Manage and organize multiple file types across different design platforms effectively
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of practical work experience
- Advanced proficiency in Fusion 360 and a 3D Rendering Software (Keyshot or equivalent)
- Degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
- Ability to work on multiple products and categories at once. Knowledgeable about various design periods and their defining elements.
- Excellent listener and communicator who can transform conceptual ideas into practical solutions. Strong 2D design skills in creating concept sketches
- Experience working with metals, and familiarity with prototyping and manufacturing processes
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Results-driven, proactive, and capable of working independently
- Strong time-management skills, and great communication skills
- Prior experience working with luxury products and developing product collections
- Based in the New York Metropolitan Area with the ability to work from the Luxholdups office in Brooklyn Navy Yard as required
