About this role

About the Role

We are looking for a CMF Designer to own and develop the Color, Material & Finish direction across a range of physical products.

You will work closely with Product Design, NPD, Sourcing, and Manufacturing teams to translate design concepts into products that are visually distinctive, tactilely engaging, commercially viable, and manufacturable at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop CMF concepts and directions for new and existing products.
  • Define color palettes, materials, textures, surface treatments, and finishes.
  • Create CMF boards, material libraries, color standards, and product specifications.
  • Work closely with product and industrial designers to integrate CMF into product concepts.
  • Research new materials, finishes, textures, manufacturing techniques, and design trends.
  • Evaluate materials and finishes based on aesthetics, functionality, durability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Work with vendors and manufacturers to develop and refine samples.
  • Review prototypes and production samples and ensure they match the intended design.
  • Drive color matching and finish consistency across products and production batches.
  • Work with sourcing and manufacturing teams on material availability, costing, MOQ, and production constraints.
  • Support NPD from concept development through sampling and final production.
  • Build and maintain a structured CMF library.
  • Ensure consistency of visual and tactile language across different product categories.

What We're Looking For

  • 2–5 years of experience in CMF, industrial design, product design, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of colors, materials, textures, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience taking CMF concepts from concept → sampling → production.
  • Strong visual sense and attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience working with manufacturers and vendors.
  • Understanding of materials such as plastics, metals, fabrics, silicone, coatings, paints, etc.
  • Ability to balance aesthetics with functionality, cost, durability, and manufacturability.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Good to Have

  • Experience in consumer products, lifestyle products, toys, furniture, consumer electronics, footwear, or other physical products.
  • Knowledge of injection moulding, blow moulding, vacuum forming, powder coating, anodising, printing, textiles, or other manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working directly with factories and vendors.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing CMF thinking and real-world product development.
