About the Role

As a Product Design Engineer, you'll contribute across multiple phases of the product development process, turning concepts into robust, feasible, production-ready designs. We're looking for someone with proven Solidworks expertise who can engineer designs with confidence and precision. This is a role with genuine career progression, and the opportunity to work on products for recognised international brands.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to product development from concept through to production-ready design.
• Engineer robust, manufacture-ready parts and assemblies using Solidworks 3D CAD.
• Balance aesthetic and engineering requirements in collaboration with the design team.
• Support prototyping, testing, and validation to prove design feasibility.
• Take ownership of projects and help ensure deadlines are met.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• At least 4 years' industry experience in a consultancy or in-house product development environment.
• Proven ability to execute and deliver engineered parts and assemblies for manufacture.
• Skilled in Solidworks 3D CAD for models and assemblies, including surfacing tools and clean, robust geometry.
• Understanding of the aesthetic demands of quality consumer products.
• Understanding of the structural design of mechanisms, multi-part assemblies, linkages.
• Strong creative and analytical skills, with the ability to propose and assess the best mechanical solutions.
• In-depth knowledge of materials - especially plastics - part design, and tooling.
• Broad knowledge of manufacturing methods, primarily plastic injection moulding and metal fabrication.
• Solid understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacture) and the tooling process.
• Experience prototyping, testing, and proving the feasibility of a design.

Desirable:

• Comfortable supporting and sharing knowledge with other members of the design team.
• Experience helping creative designers understand the engineering requirements of a part or assembly.
• Some project management experience, with the confidence to take charge and keep projects on track.
• Enjoys the variety and shared responsibility of working in a small, close-knit team.

Qualifications

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Design Engineering, or a related discipline.

Other Requirements:

• You must have the right to work in the UK. We are not looking to offer visa sponsorship on this role.
• A clean driving licence and access to your own transport - essential, as our rural location has limited public transport.
• This is a predominantly office-based role: we find close, in-person collaboration works best for complex design work.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience
