Commercial Furniture Designer

Designer – Commercial Furniture Industry Employment Type: Full-Time Location: Branchburg, New Jersey

Position Overview

The Designer plays a critical role in conceptualizing, developing, and refining commercial furniture solutions that meet client needs, adhere to brand standards, and align with manufacturing capabilities. This position blends creativity, space-planning expertise, and technical proficiency to support both custom and catalog product development. The ideal candidate has strong aesthetic judgment, a deep understanding of materials and furniture construction, and the ability to translate ideas into compelling visual and technical outputs.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Concept Development

• Create innovative, functional, and aesthetically aligned commercial furniture concepts for workplace, hospitality, education, and healthcare environments.
• Develop sketches, renderings, mood boards, and 3D visualizations to communicate design intent.

Technical Drawings & Specifications

• Produce detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and production-ready files using software such as AutoCAD and CET
• Prepare specification documents, bill of materials (BOMs), finish selections, and presentation materials.

Project Collaboration

• Work closely with sales teams, project managers, and clients to understand requirements and deliver tailored design solutions.
• Participate in design charrettes, client presentations, and internal reviews.

Documentation & Communication

• Maintain organized project files, specifications, and design documentation.
• Communicate design decisions effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide ongoing support for product updates, custom modifications, and design clarifications.

Qualifications

Required

• 2–5 years of design experience (commercial furniture industry preferred).
• Proficiency in industry-standard design software: Cap 2020, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, CET, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, ergonomics, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent visual communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

• Experience with commercial interiors, workplace solutions, or contract furniture.
• Familiarity with sustainability practices, certifications (e.g., LEED), and material performance standards.
