JOB DESCRIPTION — PRODUCT DESIGNER, FURNITURE
Company: Stax Living
Location: Andheri, Mumbai
Employment Type: Full-Time
About Stax Living
Stax Living is a luxury furniture and décor brand specialising in thoughtfully designed furniture, refined materials and in-house craftsmanship. Our collections combine distinctive design, everyday comfort and lasting quality.
About the Role
We are looking for a Product Designer who can develop original furniture concepts and guide them through prototyping and production. The role requires a strong design sensibility, practical knowledge of materials and construction, and close collaboration with our manufacturing team to create furniture that is distinctive, functional and thoughtfully made.
Key Responsibilities
- Design furniture across categories, including sofas, armchairs, tables, beds, consoles, sideboards and storage units.
- Develop concepts through research, sketches, mood boards and material explorations.
- Create 3D models and renders that clearly communicate form, proportions, materials and finishes.
- Prepare detailed technical drawings covering dimensions, materials, joinery, assembly and manufacturing specifications.
- Select materials and finishes suited to the design intent, function and production requirements.
- Collaborate with craftsmen, CAD draftsmen, vendors and production teams to develop samples and prototypes.
- Evaluate prototypes for comfort, ergonomics, stability, proportions and finish quality.
- Refine designs based on prototype testing, manufacturing feedback and costing.
- Develop custom furniture solutions that reflect the brand’s design language.
- Maintain organised design files, specifications and drawing revisions.
- Follow designs through production to ensure finished pieces meet approved specifications and quality expectations.
Required Skills
- Strong sketching, concept development and visual presentation skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for technical drawings.
- Proficiency in a 3D modelling tool such as Rhino, SketchUp, SolidWorks or Blender.
- Ability to create realistic renders using KeyShot, V-Ray, Octane or equivalent software.
- A strong understanding of form, proportion, colour and material combinations.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into practical, manufacturable furniture.
- Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
Technical Knowledge
Candidates should have a working understanding of:
- Furniture construction, joinery and assembly methods.
- Solid wood, plywood, MDF and veneers.
- Upholstery construction, cushioning systems, fabrics and leather.
- Metal fabrication, casting and finishes.
- Marble, natural stone and glass applications.
- Furniture hardware, fittings and mechanisms.
- Ergonomics, dimensions, tolerances and structural stability.
- Manufacturing processes, material limitations and production costs.
Candidate Profile
- A diploma or degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design or a related field.
- Previous experience in furniture or physical product design is preferred.
- A portfolio demonstrating concept development, technical detailing and an understanding of materials.
- Experience working with manufacturers, workshops or craftspeople would be an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- A hands-on approach to prototyping, testing and resolving production challenges.
- A sense of ownership and the ability to follow designs from concept to completion.
What We Are Looking For
- Someone who can create distinctive furniture and understand how it will be made. The ideal candidate cares about every detail—from proportions and comfort to construction and finish—and takes ownership of developing each piece from the first sketch to the finished product.
