About this role
The Apple Industrial Design team is accepting portfolios from curious, passionate, and collaborative industrial designers. We are looking for highly motivated, determined problem-solvers with a rigorous attention to detail. We are interested in seeing work at all levels.
Industrial design engineers are responsible for designing and developing high quality design concepts to drive new Apple products.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on prototyping, without relying solely on virtual design tools, to create design prototypes and refine for mass production
- Uphold Apple's design aesthetics with regards to materials and driving material innovation with key engineering partners
- Evaluate the construction of products and executing product design from concept through to manufacturing
- Sketch alongside other designers throughout the design process to communicate ideas of form, color and material exploration, and experience use cases to multi-functional teams to solve design problems
- Build physical models, including simple paper models, quick prototypes using found and mixed media, 3D prints, and detailed 3D physical models using 2D drawing software and 3D CAD software
- Work with electrical and mechanical design teams to understand engineering constraints and incorporate feedback to ensure successful implementation for mass production
- Collaborate with team members to evaluate design feasibility based on aesthetic appearance, functionality, production materials, costs/methods and marketing
- Contribute to human factors research including product reliability testing, design of the testing protocol, user interviews and provide specific feedback on products
- Collaborate with CAD engineers and CAD Sculptors to resolve design/manufacturing and cosmetic issues with OEM vendors and manufacturers
- Perform on-site collaborative work in confidential labs to understand technical challenges and provide creative solutions, including reviewing 2D and 3D CAD and engineering prototypes, and under regulated lighting conditions to refine materials, color, and finish and provide direction to manufacturing specialists

- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Design or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation
- Must have a body of work that has been produced
